Overview
The xc-01 is a new kind of telescope where the
real sight is superposed by virtual objects. Easy to use like a common
telescope it allows the projection of contextual information on the
viewer’s field of vision. The result is an amalgamation of reality and
virtuality.
There is a large application area of the xc-01: The virtual reconstruction of ruins in archeology, the projection of rock formations in geology and the visualization of buildings coming into being in architecture are just a few examples. Dependent on the application and the target group these topics are presented factual and informative or didactical and entertaining.
Consequently the xc-01 is a tool to visualize real time localized information for architects, archeologists, statisticians, tourist guides, teachers and many more.
Hardware
The vandalism-proof case of the
xc-01 contains a high-resolution camera, a high-contrast lcd-display, a
precise hardware tracking system, an air condition for outdoor use and
a coin detector.
The camera is located in the front of the xc-01 and films the real scene. In the back there is an LCD-display showing final image augmented with virtual overlays.
The hardware tracking system delivers absolute values of the vertical and horizontal rotation of the telescope's head. The xc-01 only needs a common power outlet to work.
Application Area
There is a large application area for the xc-01. It is a powerful
information system as well as an entertaining and storytelling media
centre.
Through the xc-01 users on the one hand can see scenes from the past like ancient buildings and on the other hand scenes of the future like buildings coming into being. Invisible facts like radiation, magnetism, thermal, wind or statistics can be mapped on real environments in real time.
These contents can be designed as serious information systems as well as entertaining and storytelling educational applications dependent on the target group. Consequently the xc-01 is a tool to visualize real time localized information for architects, archeologists, statisticians, tourist guides, teachers and many more.
